The Annual Gates of Chai Lectureship in Contemporary Judaism promotes informed, dynamic public dialogue and education on issues of relevance in contemporary Judaism. It is endowed through the generosity of Gates of Chai, Inc., in memory of Larry Kornbleet, and those family members of Stanley and Marcia Kornbleet Kurtz who perished in the Holocaust.

Dr. Amy-Jill Levine, Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt University

Dr. Amy-Jill Levine is University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Vanderbilt University and affiliated professor of Jewish-Christian Relations at the Woolf Institute in Cambridge, England. A graduate of Smith College, Dr. Levine received her masters and Ph.D. degrees from Duke University. Internationally recognized for her academic studies as well as her programs for churches and synagogues, she is the author of numerous works, including the highly acclaimed The Misunderstood Jew: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus.  Dr. Levine describes herself as “Yankee Jewish feminist who teaches in a predominantly Christian divinity school in the buckle of the Bible Belt.”
