Teaching Skills Workshop for Doctoral Students and Graduate Assistants

March 2, 2011

Hello TCU Doctoral Students and Graduate/Teaching Assistants,

Please consider attending this month’s Teaching and Learning Conversation. The topic may be very germane and interesting for your situation, and TTU’s TEACH Program has many years’ success in helping TTU soon-to-be-grads prepare for the academic job market. The Koehler Center is continuing to expand its support of PhD students and GTAs, and we are eager to adopt good ideas from TTU where possible. Come to this TLC and help us figure out which things would fit well here at TCU!

Thanks,

Jeff

It’s Worth It!
Developing the Teaching Skills of Graduate Teaching Assistants

Ms. Suzanne Tapp and Dr. Allison Boye of Texas Tech University will share information about TTU’s Graduate Teaching Assistant professional development curriculum, the TEACH Program. Whether GTAs are in the classroom or the academic job market upon graduation, teaching well is a required skill. TTU’s TEACH Program graduates have the training upon completion of this fellowship to substantiate their ability to teach in a college setting. What did TTU think was important for GTAs to be able to know and do? How did they help them reach those outcomes? What do their GTAs think of the training? Should TCU do something similar? Join us for an overview of the TEACH Program, lessons learned throughout its ten-year history, and possible ideas for application at TCU.
