Earthquake in Aotearoa/ New Zealand

February 23, 2011

Dear Friends and Colleagues of the WSCF AP,

Peace be with you!

Below please find an email from SCM Aotearoa/New Zealand National Secretary, Neill Ballantyn requesting for prayers for the devastation brought about by a deadly and powerful 6.3 earthquake that hit the second biggest city in New Zealand, Christchurch. As of today, 75 people have died, 300 missing and 100 feared to have been killed, including some foreign students, when a Television Network building collapsed yesterday at height of the tremor. As the people of New Zealand mourn and cope from this tragic and sorrowful event, we ask that you join us in prayer for God’s grace, healing and comfort. You may also contact Neill for more information on ways to help or support the relief work and rehabilitation efforts of the local churches and groups.

Let us take a moment of silence to pray and remember the people in Christchurch, New Zealand at this time of sorrow and great need. We specially request that you remember in your prayers our friends in SCM Aotearoa, the ecumenical movement and the churches in Christchurch.

May God’s comforting grace and love be with our brother and sisters in Christchurch.

In Prayers and Solidarity,

Necta Montes
