Dr. Sprinkle receives distinguished award from cathedral of hope

June 30, 2010

Dear Brite Community,Dr. Steve Sprinkle - Professor and Blogger

I have just received this notice of a fine honor recently announced for our colleague, Dr. Steve Sprinkle. Brite Student, Christopher Thomas, writes in behalf of Cathedral of Hope:

Dear Dr. Ramsay,

I want to let you know that Rev. Dr. Steve Sprinkle has been chosen as the 2010 recipient of the Cathedral of Hope – Hero of Hope award to be presented on Sunday, July 18th during both the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services.

The mission of the Cathedral of Hope is to reclaim Christianity as a faith of extravagant grace, radical inclusion and relentless compassion. As such, we seek ways to honor those who embody and live out this mission through lives that are transforming our society at every level. We feel very strongly that Dr. Sprinkle accomplishes this on a daily basis. Dr. Sprinkle demonstrates the intersection of academia and real-life, and strives to live out what he believes and teaches.

Specifically, Dr. Sprinkle helps to achieve our common goals:

  • To change how the world thinks about LGBTQA people;
  • To change how LGBTQA people think about God;
  • To reach people, especially teens living in isolation in small towns; and
  • To redefine Christianity as an including faith rather than an excluding religion.

Additionally, Dr. Sprinkle has agreed to serve the Cathedral as our honorary ‘Theologian in Residence’ for the upcoming year, which means we will have the benefit of his wisdom, candor and phenomenal capabilities as we seek new and inventive ways to further our mission and ministry.

As I know the Brite community does, we love and feel a deep relationship with Dr. Sprinkle, and would very much like to invite the Brite community to be a part of this celebratory day. Cynthia Clawson, a past recipient of the Hero of Hope award, will be performing at both services, so it will be a joyous occasion, made all the more so by the inclusion of Steve’s Brite family. If you will let us know how best to be in communication, we would love to invite everyone to be part of this event in this most important 40th year in the life of the Cathedral of Hope!

Yours very truly,

Christopher Thomas

I hope a number of us will be able to join the congregation on the 18th to celebrate this occasion honoring Dr. Sprinkle.
