Message from Rev. Luis Bernard – Director of the Brite Center for Latino/a Church Studies

Dear Brite Community:

I warmly invite you to this year’s Center for Latino/a Church Studies Lecturship given by Dr. Francisco Garcia-Treto, Jennie Farris Railey King Professor of Religion Emeritus at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday, Oct. 6th, 2009. His scheduled events are listed below:

Tuesday, Oct. 6

11:00am: Chapel/Sermon: Dr. Garcia-Treto will provide a sermon on Tuesday on Job 1:1 and 2:1-10 entitled, “I could also talk as you do, if you were in my place ”

12noon: Community Conversation: “Fifty Years as a Latino Protestant in the US: Changes
and Perspectives,” Weatherly Hall.

7:00pm: Evening Lecture: “Being Together in One Place or Not: A Cuban-American Latino Reflects on Minority Biblical Criticism” Kelly Center. Free and open to the public.

Dr. Garcia-Treto studied at Princeton Theological Seminary where he earned his Masters of Divinity and his Ph.D. in the area of the Hebrew Bible. He was born in Cardenas, Cuba. He is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and a member of Mission Presbytery (Honorably Retired).
